Looking for a fun way to sneak learning into your Easter celebrations? These Easter-themed activities are perfect for preschoolers who are just beginning to learn their letters and numbers. Whether you're homeschooling, teaching preschool, or just keeping little ones busy during spring break, these activities are hands-on, simple to prep, and full of festive fun.
All of these ideas can be adapted to focus on either letter recognition, number recognition, or both!
1. Easter Egg Hunt (Letters or Numbers)
Put letters or numbers inside plastic eggs and hide them around your house or yard. As your child finds each egg, have them open it and say the letter or number aloud.
For an extra challenge, add a small picture or group of objects that match the letter sound or number value.
2. Plastic Egg Matching Game
Write uppercase letters on one side of plastic eggs and lowercase letters on the other. Or, use numbers and matching dot patterns. Mix and match the pieces and let your child connect the correct halves.
3. Feed the Bunny Game
Create a bunny face from a box or paper plate with a cut-out “mouth.” Call out a letter or number, let your child find the matching card, and “feed” it to the bunny.
You can make this even more engaging by asking them to say a word that starts with the letter or count out the correct number of small objects first.
4. Easter Dot Sticker Eggs
Draw or print large Easter eggs and write various letters or numbers inside. Give your child dot stickers and call out which one to find and cover. This activity is great for both learning and fine motor practice.
You can also put one of the blank Easter egg pages in a dry erase pocket, write a letter or number on the egg, and have your child trace it or cover it with dried beans.
5. Alphabet and Number Peep Smash
Write letters or numbers on a sheet of paper and place marshmallow Peeps next to each one. Call out a letter or number and let your child smash the correct one with their hand or a toy hammer.
6. Bunny Hop Game
Lay out letter or number cards on the floor. Call one out and have your child hop to it like a bunny. You can also say things like, “Hop 3 times!” and count together.
7. Easter Egg Ten Frame
Use an empty egg carton to create a ten-frame. Label each section with numbers 1–10, and give your child small items like jelly beans or pom-poms to count into each section.
8. Count and Match Eggs
Write a number on one half of a plastic egg and place the same number of stickers or dots on the other half. Your child can count and match them.
Want to mix it up? Try the same game with letters and picture clues!
9. Letter and Number Sensory Bin
Fill a bin with Easter grass and plastic eggs that contain letter or number cards. Let your child dig through and identify what they find. Add small items or pictures that match the letter sound or number for extra fun.
10. Egg Stamping Activity
Cut a potato or sponge into an egg shape, dip it in paint, and stamp it onto paper. Once dry, write a letter or number on each one, then have your child trace them with paint on a Q-Tip.
You can also write a number on the egg and have your child stamp and decorate the egg with that number of dots using a Q-Tip and paint.
I hope these Easter-themed activities bring some extra joy—and learning—to your spring season! Whether you're hiding eggs, hopping like bunnies, or smashing Peeps, your child is building important early skills through play.
Happy Easter and happy learning!
