Preschoolers are naturally curious about the world around them, and there's no better way to explore it than through the changing seasons. That’s why I created the Seasons Unit Study. This unit study will help little learners experience the magic of winter, spring, summer, and fall with hands-on, engaging activities.
This printable unit is packed with over 100 pages of low-prep activities that cover science, math, literacy, art, sensory play, and more. Whether you’re homeschooling full-time or looking to enrich your child’s early education at home, this unit makes learning seasonal changes fun and easy.
All About the Four Seasons
Before diving into each individual season, the unit starts with a fun and simple introduction to what the four seasons are.
You can also read a book about the seasons, color a Four Seasons coloring page or try the Sorting Seasonal Items activity, where kids cut and sort pictures that belong to each season. It’s a great way to spark curiosity and set the stage for deeper learning throughout the year.
Winter

We start with winter, where kids can:
- Design their own sock snowman
- Try the Freeze and Melt experiment
- Play the Snowball Game
- Sort animals by hibernation and migration
You’ll also find cozy art projects like snowflake drawings, winter-themed writing prompts, and a fun winter field trip list.
Spring

As the world starts to bloom, we dive into spring with:
- A Plant Life Cycle cut-and-paste
- A hands-on Rain Cycle sensory bag
- Nature-inspired crafts like coffee filter butterflies and bird feeders
- Flower math with the Counting Petals activity
- A nature walk journal to explore your own backyard
It’s the perfect time to get outside, observe changes, and connect learning to the real world.
Summer

Next up is summer, full of sunshine and sensory play:
- Make art with bubbles or build a sandcastle with real sand
- Learn through play with the Frozen Letters & Numbers activity
- Try the Sink or Float experiment and Ice Melt challenge
- Stay active with the Water Balloon Toss counting game
- Build safety awareness with bonus Sun Safety and Water Safety posters
Summer is all about movement, creativity, and simple fun.
Fall

Finally, we round out the year with fall, a time of discovery and change:
- Go on a leaf hunt and create Leaf Art or a Leaf Rubbing journal page
- Explore the Life Cycle of a Pumpkin or try the Pumpkin Jack science activity
- Practice fine motor skills with dot-to-dot and color-by-number pages
- Write about jumping into a giant leaf pile and visit a pumpkin patch or apple orchard
It’s a cozy, colorful way to welcome autumn while reinforcing key early learning skills.
