Do you have a little elf coming to your house this month?
The Elf on the Shelf is a great way to get the kids excited for Christmas!
They try harder to be nice/good.
They learn that their good behavior will get them a reward.
They get excited to wake up and find the elf.
They get excited to count down the days to Christmas.
I really wanted to do an advent calendar for the kids this year but decided it would be more fun to have the elf bring them little gifts randomly throughout the month.
I bought things like: lip gloss, candy canes, chalk, paint, colorful Band-Aids...
Just little things but not a bunch of candy like most pre-made advent calendars have. And things that they will use! Not junk toys.
If you have young kids, the dollar store is a great place to buy a lot of items. Once they get older, you can't get away with dollar store items as often.
Take full advantage of it while you can!
BONUS!! A lot of these ideas you can turn into activities to do with your kids!
