Some days, homeschooling feels magical. The kids are engaged, the lessons click, and there’s time for laughter and connection. Other days? It’s chaos, doubt, and wondering if we’re doing any of this “right.”
When those hard days hit, and they will, I’ve found one thing that helps more than anything else: going back to your why.
Our “Why” Isn’t Just a Reason. It’s Our Foundation.
When we first started homeschooling, I had a clear vision. I wanted freedom. Flexibility. The ability to slow down or speed up based on my kids’ needs. I wanted to make room for wonder and curiosity, not just worksheets and test prep. I wanted our days to feel meaningful and fun!
That vision still matters. But when I’m tired, overwhelmed, or just stretched too thin, it’s easy to forget what got us here in the first place.
Your Why Might Look Different, And That’s Okay
Your reason might be different than mine. Maybe you wanted more time as a family. Maybe your child needed a break from a system that didn’t see them clearly. Maybe you're chasing a slower rhythm, more values-based learning, or the ability to truly follow your child's interests.
Whatever your reason was, hold onto it.
Write it down. Say it out loud. Remind yourself of it often.
When You Want to Quit, Go Back to the Beginning
The truth is: homeschooling is hard because it matters. We’re not just checking boxes, we’re shaping childhood. And that’s a lot. It’s okay to admit that it’s heavy sometimes.
But when the curriculum feels overwhelming, when the kids are fighting, when doubt creeps in… pause. Breathe. And go back to your why.

It’s Okay to Change Your Why, Too
Here’s something I’ve learned: your why might evolve.
Maybe at first, you homeschooled out of necessity. But now, you’re starting to see the joy in learning together. Or maybe what felt like the right reason back then doesn’t fit anymore, and you’re discovering a deeper purpose now.
That’s not failure. That’s growth.
A Simple Reminder
If no one has told you lately, you’re doing a beautiful thing. Even when it’s messy, inconsistent, or not Instagram-worthy, you're giving your kids something real. Something personal. Something that matters.
So today, if you're questioning everything, don’t spiral. Instead, just go back to your why. Let that anchor you.
And if you’re feeling overwhelmed and need support, you're not alone in that either. I’m working on something just for moms like you. My new course for overwhelmed homeschool moms will walk you through how to manage life, homeschool, and everything in between, without losing yourself in the process. More details coming soon!
