Do you need some time to yourself or time to clean your house?Here are a few things that I do to keep my kids entertained while I get some things done.
EDUCATIONAL SHOWS
I was always the one to say that I would never put my kids in front of the TV but I had my son when my daughter was only 18 months old and that first year was brutal! I used YouTube as a way to entertain my daughter and quickly saw how much she was learning from it.
EDUCATIONAL APPS
If your child is using your phone, I love the YouTube Kids app. It is super easy for little ones to navigate.
As my daughter got older, she started to venture away from the educational shows and this is when I was like, "ohhhhh, this is why people don't like YouTube. I tried out a few different apps and here are a few that I loved.
GET OUTSIDE
I also love anything outdoors. If you have a backyard or even a small area for the kids to play, your options are endless.
Getting outside is great because the kids can make a mess with less clean up and they can run wild to get some energy out.
Some of our favorite messy play activities are:
- Water beads.
- Baking soda and vinegar play. I like to put baking soda in cupcake trays, give the kids a cup of vinegar with pipettes and like them put the vinegar in the baking soda. Add food coloring to make it more fun!
- Ooblek: Mix cornstarch and water until you get the consistency you like.
Grab a chair and relax outside. Or, if you are able to watch your kids play outside from inside your house, they can play while you get things done inside.
BATH TIME
Bath time is another great time to take advantage of. If you set the kids up with the right things to do, they will stay entertained long enough for you to clean the bathroom, scroll through social media, read a couple chapters, catch up with a friend... just make sure you are watching them the entire time. Whatever you choose to do needs to be within the limits of the bathroom.
My kids love these things for the bath:
- Putting goggles on and standing under the shower.
- Plant-based bubble baths.
- Getting toys from around the house.
- Washing their baby dolls.
- Bath blocks.
SEARCH ONLINE
There are so many products online. Search for things that your kids will love. For example, if you just need some down time, you can try the Play Mat Race Car Track Shirt.
This is something fun for the kids to do while you relax.
