It's that time of year again! The leaves are changing, the air is crisp, and homeschool parents everywhere are looking for ways to make learning fun and festive. If you're on the hunt for some great Halloween books to read with your preschooler, look no further! Here are my favorites to get your little ones in the spooky spirit.

It's Halloween night and something doesn't seem quite right... When the Catch Club Kids head out to trick-or-treat, there are ghosts, goblins, and ghouls everywhere! Our heroes discover a witch on a broom has opened a magical portal that let out spooky creatures all over the neighborhood. Follow along in this frightfully fun story as they set zany traps for the witch to close the portal and save Halloween before all the candy is gone!

Everyone knows that trick-or-treating is the best part of Halloween. But that one house looks kind of scary...wait, why are you walking toward the creepy house?! Whatever you do, do NOT ring that doorbell!

Everyone knows most young saplings dream of becoming Christmas trees. But one grumpy, old tree who doesn't like lights, decorations, or people is determined to be different. Get ready to meet the Halloween Tree!

Follow Pete as he goes trick-or-treating from house to house and discover what is waiting behind each door.

Look around the pumpkin patch for little creatures hiding among the pumpkins, choose your favorite costume in the parade, take a haunted hayride, and more. Talk about Halloween traditions, like pumpkin carving, trick-or-treating, and costume parties. Learn interesting facts, such as where the most pumpkins in the U.S. are grown, which country believes black cats are good luck, and what candy corn used to be called.

For everything that skeletons do for us, why do they have such a bad reputation for being spooky? Maybe they are just like us and want to have a little bit of fun.

Beep! Beep! It’s Halloween! Little Blue Truck is picking up his animal friends for a costume party.
Lift the flaps in this large, sturdy board book to find out who’s dressed up in each costume! Will Blue wear a costume too?

It's bedtime in the cold gray tomb with a black lagoon, and two slimy claws, and a couple of jaws, and a skull and a shoe and a pot full of goo. But as a little werewolf settles down, in comes the Goon determined at all costs to run amok and not let any monster have his rest.

This interactive book is perfect for kids who love to press buttons and pull tabs. As the monster on each page grows more and more terrifying, young readers will be delighted when they finally get to say "go away" and make him disappear.
Say "Boo" and "Happy Halloween" with some of Eric Carle's most beloved characters, including The Very Hungry Caterpillar and The Very Busy Spider.

The witch has grown the biggest pumpkin ever, and now she wants to make herself a pumpkin pie for Halloween. But the pumpkin is so big she can't get it off the vine.
It’s so big the ghost can’t move it, either. Neither can the vampire, nor the mummy. It looks as if there’ll be no pumpkin pie for Halloween, until along comes the bat with an idea to save the day.
How can the tiny bat succeed where bigger and strong spooky creatures have failed? You'll be surprised!

Help the little ghost scurry about and find his spooky friends quickly! Follow a sweet little ghost as he visits a murky swamp, creepy cavern, and haunted house to collect his ghoulish friends. Little ones will love counting and spotting all the hidden friends along the way in this rhyming, spook-tacular object search filled with mummies, ghosts, goblins, zombies, witches, monsters, and other spooky things!

It's time to go trick-or-treating with Little Critter and friends!

Follow Boo the Ghost as he celebrates his first Halloween with all his Monster friends! He is a shy little ghost and quickly realizes he is afraid of many things. Read as Boo discovers to be brave in this adorable, spooky story!

The Ugly Pumpkin has waited all through October for someone to take him home, but no one wants him. He doesn't look like other pumpkins. So the lonely Ugly Pumpkin leaves the patch in search of a place where he'll fit in. By the time Thanksgiving arrives, he discovers the truth about who he is--but it's not what he expected!

Halloween is a great time to curl up with a good book (or nine). If you're looking for some festive reading material for your homeschoolers this October, consider one (or all) of these Halloween books.

Happy reading!
