Check out these solar oven s'mores! Preschoolers will learn about the power of the sun while enjoying a delicious treat. Not to mention, this activity is low-cost and easy to set up. Keep reading for step-by-step instructions on how to create your own solar oven s'mores.

Step 1: Gather Materials
Before you begin creating your solar oven s'mores, gather all the necessary materials.

You will need:
These materials can be easily found around your house or at the dollar store.  I LOVE the dollar store!

Step 2: Prepare the Box
Open the box and use popsicle sticks to keep it open. Be sure not to take the top off the box, as it will be used as a reflector. Line the inside of the box with aluminum foil.

Step 3: Build the S'more
Now comes the fun part! Build your s'more in the box. Start with the graham cracker on the bottom, add the chocolate in the middle, and top it off with a marshmallow. Don't worry about melting the chocolate or marshmallow, as the sun will do all the work for you.

Step 4: Cover with Plastic Wrap
Cover the opening of the box with plastic wrap. This will create a greenhouse effect and trap the sun's heat to melt the chocolate and marshmallow.

Step 5: Let it Melt
Set your solar oven s'mores outside in the sun and wait for the chocolate to melt. This could take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the strength of the sun and how hot it is outside. Once the chocolate is melted, it's time to enjoy your yummy treat!

This activity is part of my solar system unit study and GUESS WHAT?!?  You get it for FREE!!!
