Ball Sorting! All you need is a few items and your preschooler will be ready to start learning the alphabet, colors, their name, numbers, shapes, and sight words.

WHAT YOU NEED:
WHAT TO DO:
Use your markers to jot down letters, numbers, or whatever learning theme you’d like.
Mix the ping pong balls in a bowl.
Hand your child the tongs and have them pick up a ball.
Have them say what is written on the ball and put it in the correct cup.

THE BENEFITS:
  • Fine Motor Skills: Picking up those balls? Yep, that's a win for fine motor development.
  • Cognitive Skills: Sorting the balls teaches material recognition, classification, and organization.
  • Language and Vocabulary: Every ball is a conversation starter about that very word!
  • Persistence: The repeated game plays instill patience and the art of trying, trying, and trying again.

ALPHABET
Sort the balls in alphabetical order.
Match uppercase and lowercase letters.
Tape sound tiles on the cups and match letters with images.

COLORS
Sort by color.

NAME
Write one letter of your child's name on each cup.  Set the cups up so that they spell your child's name.  Have your child put the balls with the letters from their name in the correct cup.  You can mix in other letters or only put the letters from their name.

NUMBERS
Sort the balls in numerical order or mix it up!

SHAPES
Sort and say the name of the shapes!

SIGHT WORDS
Sort and say the name of the shapes!
Use the word in a sentence.

Ready, set, sort!
