This was a fun little activity you can do with your kids for sensory play, messy play, outdoor play, and for learning!
We did this activity with the Little Blue Truck book.
I left the container with dirt for a couple days so we could play with it throughout the week. We originally made it to play monster trucks and cars but then we got creative and used it a couple of other ways.
We put some of the play kitchen items in there to make some play food and we also tried to build a castle since the soil was a little moist, it was easy to form.
This was a super easy activity. Especially if you already have dirt or soil laying around like I did.
If you have a patch of dirt outside, you don't need to put it in a container, let the kids play outside. I'm sure they will love being outside so much more!
Add some water to the dirt or soil to make a muddy area.
You can reenact the Little Blue Truck book or you can have them play with cars and talk to them about the book and some scenarios.
If you do this activity outside on a hot day, let the kids run around in the sprinkler, hose or play with any water toys you have. I love to think of ways to turn one activity into multiple activities.
Check out the video below to see how we did this activity.
