Technology is a fundamental part of our lives.  This computer typing activity will give your child with a fun and educational way to learn the alphabet, their name, numbers, and sight words.  Plus, they will be able to use a keyboard and get familiar with computers.

WHAT YOU NEED:
  • Computer or laptop
  • Printer (optional).  This is a basic activity, any printer will be great.  But, for future reference, I absolutely LOVE my Epson Eco Tank!
WHAT TO DO:
*Watch your child closely while they are on the computer to ensure they don't push any wrong keys or open any other windows.

Open Word or a similar program on your computer.

Identify the letters or numbers on the keyboard.  Notice how when you push one, it shows up on the screen.
Find specific letters or numbers on the keyboard and type them.

  • Type in alphabetical order.
  • Type in uppercase and lowercase.
  • Type random letters and talk about their sounds.
  • Type your name.
  • Type sight words.
  • Type numbers 1-10.

If you are able to, print the document and have your child look at it and read what they see.
TIP: Put a piece of colored tape on specific keys to prevent your child from getting overwhelmed.

WHAT OTHER WAYS CAN YOUR CHILD BENEFIT?
Fine Motor Skills and Hand-Eye Coordination
Typing on a keyboard is beneficial for a child’s development, as it helps to improve overall coordination and fine motor skills.

Cognitive Development
Typing involves memorizing the location of each letter on the keyboard. This activity can help children build their memory and cognitive skills.

Technology Skills
Computer typing activities can introduce children to technology in a safe and controlled environment. Teaching children how to use a keyboard can help them gain confidence in using other computer programs. Additionally, children will become more familiar with technology, which can help them in school and future careers.

This is one of the activities from my activity book: Pre-K The Fun Way
The book contains many fun and engaging activities that help your child learn while having fun.
