Looking for a super fun and simple activity to keep your little ones entertained this 4th of July? How about making some DIY straw shooters? It’s easy, creative, and guarantees loads of giggles. Here’s what you’ll need and how to do it:

WHAT YOU NEED:

WHAT TO DO:
Decorate the Paper:
Let your preschooler unleash their artistic side! Grab some paper and markers, and let them decorate however they like. Think red, white, and blue, stars, stripes, fireworks—anything patriotic and fun!

Get Creative:
Don’t stop decorating the paper! Add stickers, glitter, or even more drawings to your shooters. The more festive, the better!

Cut the Paper into Strips:
Once the masterpiece is complete, grab your scissors and cut the paper into strips. They should be wide enough to comfortably wrap around a straw. The length of the strips will determine how long your shooter will be, so vary it up for different shooting experiences.

Wrap and Secure:
Take one of the paper strips and wrap it around the top end of a straw. Make sure it’s snug but not too tight. Secure it in place with tape.

Close and Tape the End:
Fold down the open end of the paper strip and tape it closed. You want a nice, clean seal so that when you blow into the straw, the paper shoots off like a rocket!

Launch Your Shooter:
Hold the straw shooter with the paper end facing away from you (and anyone else!). Take a deep breath, aim, and blow into the straw. Watch as your paper shooter zips through the air!

Experiment and Have Fun:
Try making shooters with different lengths of paper strips. See how it affects the distance and accuracy of your shots. It’s a great way to introduce some simple physics concepts in a playful manner.

Safety First:
Remember, while this activity is loads of fun, always be cautious. Make sure to shoot the paper away from people and fragile objects. Supervise your little ones closely to ensure they’re blowing safely.

And there you have it—a simple, creative, and entertaining activity to celebrate the 4th of July with your preschoolers. It’s a fantastic way to spend quality time together while getting into the patriotic spirit. Enjoy making memories and maybe even host a friendly shooting competition!

Have a blast and happy 4th of July!
