Yoga is a wonderful way to keep kids active, engaged, and calm, especially during the holiday season.  Adding a Christmas twist to classic yoga poses makes it even more fun and magical!  These six festive yoga poses are perfect for preschoolers and young children, combining movement, imagination, and mindfulness. Plus, I’ve created Christmas Yoga Posters featuring Santa doing these poses, which are available in my shop to make your sessions even more exciting!

Make it more fun with these yoga mats for kids.

1. Reindeer Run Pose
(Runner’s Lunge)
 How to Do It:
Step one foot back into a deep lunge, reaching hands up to the sky.
Christmas Magic: Pretend to be a reindeer dashing through the snow! Add fun “clip-clop” or galloping sounds as kids move between their legs.

2. Christmas Candle Pose
(Lotus Pose or Easy Cross-Legged Pose)
How to Do It:
Sit cross-legged with hands at your chest or resting on your knees.
Christmas Magic: Imagine being a glowing Christmas candle spreading warmth and light. Kids can gently wiggle their fingers like a flickering flame.

3. Reindeer Pose
(Downward-Facing Dog)
How to Do It:
Form an upside-down “V” shape with your body by lifting your hips high and keeping your arms and legs straight.
Christmas Magic: Pretend to be a reindeer stretching and getting ready to pull Santa’s sleigh! For extra fun, lift one leg to “kick up a hoof.”

4. Christmas Tree Pose
(Tree Pose)
 How to Do It:
Stand on one foot, place the other foot on the inner thigh or calf, and raise your arms like tree branches.
Christmas Magic: Pretend to be a sparkling Christmas tree swaying in the winter wind. Encourage kids to “decorate” themselves by pretending to hang ornaments with their hands.

5. Candy Cane Twist Pose
(Seated Spinal Twist)
How to Do It:
Sit on the ground, bend one leg over the other, and twist your upper body to look over your shoulder.
Christmas Magic: Imagine you’re a candy cane twisting into its perfect spiral shape. Add some fun by pretending to sprinkle peppermint magic!

6. Christmas Bell Pose
(Boat Pose)
How to Do It:
Sit on the ground, lean back slightly, and lift your legs off the floor, balancing on your sitting bones.
Christmas Magic: Pretend to be a jingling Christmas bell, ringing holiday cheer! Kids can rock gently side to side while making “jingle-jingle” sounds.
